Name your favorite books, authors, films, and/or musical artists.
I love Malcolm Gladwell and Gerd Gigerenzer for their books about the subconscious and human behaviour, Disney & Pixar movies for reminding me to stay young at heart forever. Reality TV shows me how others might behave given a scenario, and Secret Garden offers me music that soothes after a long day.
What newspapers, magazines, and/or websites do you enjoy?
Time and Newsweek magazines keep me in touch with world events. Psychology Today allows me to learn more about the mechanisms behind the behaviour that individuals exhibit. There's also the MIT Open Courseware that provides psychology lectures for me to download and listen to when I am on the go.
What is the most significant challenge that society faces today?
Maintaining genuine relationships. As life gets more fast-paced and work goes increasingly wireless, we rarely meet up with others unless there is a need to or a bid to keep up. These days, we don't seem to have friendly chats unless we have something to gain from them. Getting more individualistic?
How did you spend your last two summers?
Student Council-organizing activities for the school e.g Orientation & Youth Day. Research-I am working on a project involving spiders and trying to publish a journal paper. Camps-I love interacting with kids and organizing leadership camps for them; their smiling faces make it worthwhile.
What historical moment or event do you wish you could have witnessed or participated in?
When Marilyn vos Savant (highest IQ in the world) gave an unconventional answer to a seemingly simple math question in a magazine, thousands of letters poured in disagreeing with her. Nevertheless, she stood by her answer and was eventually proven right. The confidence she has in herself awes me.
What five words best describe you?
Principled, Curious, Enthusiastic, Optimistic, Efficient
